Dear Parents and Carers, we have had a wonderful week so far working with your children.
Term 4 Start Date
Please be aware that Term 4 will begin on Monday, October 14th. This date was previously listed incorrectly on our school calendar, but it has now been updated.
First Communion
This weekend, many of our students will celebrate their First Communion (or First Eucharist). This Sacrament is one of the most sacred and significant events in a Catholic’s life, marking the first time they receive the Eucharist. The term ‘communion’ signifies being united with Jesus Christ in a special way. As our Year Four students take part in this important sacrament, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. It is a moment they will likely remember vividly in the years to come. We pray that this First Communion brings them many blessings and draws them closer to Our Lord.
Uniform Reminder
Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct uniform each day. Your continued support in this matter is greatly appreciated. If any clothing items are missing, please check the lost property near the canteen.
Grandfriends Day
On Friday, September 27th, the last day of Term 3, we will host our annual Grandfriends Day. We invite grandparents or other significant older role models to join us for class visits and a shared picnic lunch on the oval. Parents are also welcome to attend. If your child will be meeting their Grandfriends later in the day, please also make sure they have food packed for the first break.
Thank You to the Community Council
Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU to our wonderful Community Council for organising the fantastic Trivia Night last Friday. It was a huge success and a lot of fun. We appreciate everyone who attended and extend our gratitude to the local businesses that supported our fundraising efforts.
Yours in Christ,
Samantha Mance
Acting Principal

Gospel - Mark 9:30-37
25th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)
Jesus teaches that to rank first, disciples must serve all.
Last week’s gospel, in which Jesus asked his disciples, ‘Who do you say I am?’ marked a turning point in the gospel of Mark. Having established in the minds of the disciples that he is indeed the Messiah, Jesus now begins to explore with them what that really means and also what it means to be a follower – a disciple – of the Messiah who must be put to death. Having finally come to some level of understanding that Jesus is the Messiah, the disciples have latched on to a very limited understanding of Jesus’ Messiahship. They have assumed that being Messiah meant that Jesus was going to lead a triumphant victory over all the woes of the Jews – it was a common understanding and expectation of what the Messiah would do. With this in mind, the disciples begin to argue amongst themselves about who will hold positions of respect and power in the aftermath of Jesus’ great triumph. Despite what Jesus had just said about being put to death and rising again, the disciples simply couldn’t grasp what he was saying and fell back onto a familiar picture of the Messiah.
To really shake up the disciples and try to make them pay attention to what he was saying to them, Jesus put his arms around a small child and told the disciples they had to welcome little children in his name. Like so many gospel images there is more going on here than meets the eye. Children were regarded as complete nobodies in the culture of the time. They had no status and absolutely no authority. Jesus is saying to the disciples, don’t argue about who will be the greatest; this child – this nobody – is greater than anyone who lords it over others. If you treat a nobody like this with respect, you treat me with respect.

A WORD FROM OUR SCHOOL LEADERS
Semi finals
The Gang Gang cockatoos are the Year 6 netball team. This season the team has made an amazing achievement by making it to the netball semi finals. We are the first St Peter and Paul team in four years to make it to the semi finals. To be in the semi finals was unbelievable.
We met our new coach Olivia at the start of the season and, with her, we improved not just as players but as a team. We trained hard every week and tried our hardest each game.Which goes on to show if you don’t work hard, you aren’t going to have the success that you want. But if you work hard then you are going to have the success you want.
During the game we felt many emotions. We felt rage, frustration, happiness and sadness but we didn’t let it get to us. We kept on going even though we lost. It was a great experience and it helped us grow as a team and as an individual person.
Thank you Olivia, Lucy, Nina and all our umpires and our mums and dads for taking us to sport early in the morning on a Saturday.

Exciting News for the SPP Pipers!
Step One to learning to play the bagpipes is the notes so we start on a practise chanter, the part of the bagpipe for the fingers to change the notes - with a bit attached to make a sound when it is not attached to the pipes.
We then move onto a goose bag - nothing to do with a real goose! - it is a small bag with mouthpiece and chanter piece. We learn how to breath while using the bag before we move onto the full instrument. Our instructors, Athol and Kerrie (Canberra College of Pipes and Drummers), have been so impressed with our pipers progress that we have had our first try of the goose bags.
A step closer to being on a full set of bagpipes, congratulations SPP Pipers!

NETBALL NETBALL NETBALL!
SCNA is excited to be running a 9-week Twilight comp for 2024! This a social competition and is an opportunity for children to get together and have fun playing netball. All children, regardless of experience, are encouraged and welcome to play. Places are still available for Years 2 and 4.
Due to SCNA’s courts being resurfaced, the Twilight comp will be at Arawang Netball Association, Sheraton Place, Stirling.
The season runs between 15/16 October and 10/11 December. Games will be on Wednesday (SET and GO – Years 2, 3 and 4) nights beginning at 5pm, but may also be at 6pm if there are a large number of teams. Children can wear their sport uniform or the netball uniform – whichever the team decides.
Scores and ladders are not kept. Teams generally don’t train for the Twilight competition. As such, teams only require a manager to coordinate the team on the day.
Teams MUST have 7 players to register. Players from outside the SPP community are welcome to join our teams to make up numbers. Please note the child’s interest in this google doc in the ‘Twilight 24’ tab: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mqy0L_nao-AMDIKsK6Ftjekmq20tNPNt/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=108623873506021899237&rtpof=true&sd=true
I will open registration for the team once 7 players have committed to play.
Fees for the competition:
- Returning players (played in a 2024 winter competition) - $90
- New players (no netball involvement in 2024). Please get in touch with me for a voucher code to reduce the SCNA fee. This voucher is for new players only.
Please let me know if you have any questions via stspandpnetball@gmail.com
