Dear Parents and Carers
This week is Reconciliation Week, where as a country we endeavor to bring healing, where needed, to our relationships with Indigenous Australians. Much has been written, and will continue to be written, about this issue. It seems to me that hope, and love, can take root in the most unlikely of places and in the most unlikely of occasions, and the grounds of such hope and love lie in the recognition of our common humanity.
Book Fair
A special feature of the school this week is our Book Fair. My thanks to our wonderful librarian Amanda Basedow, and her family, for the hard work they have put into making the library a portal into another world, for this is keeping with the theme of the Book Fair: ‘Books are magic’. The Book Fair remains open tomorrow morning and afternoon.
Rostrum Public Speaking Competition
Last week the school finals were held amongst our Year 6 students. Congratulations to Yianna Mentatakis for winning the School Final, and Claire Horsfield for being our Runner-Up. Yianna will now represent Sts Peter and Paul at the regional finals, held at Charles Weston School, Weston, on Thursday, July 4th. We wish Yianna the very best for the night.
This Thursday sees the school host the annual Athletics Carnival, at the Woden Athletics Track. It promises the be a wonderful day. All parents are welcome to attend and support their child or children. My thanks to Luke Gubler and the Sports Committee, and the many parent volunteers, for all of their excellent work and organization.
Presentation Mass – Confirmation Candidates
This weekend, at our Parish Masses at Curtin, our Confirmation candidates will attend and be presented to the parish community. The Presentation Masses are important affirmations of the larger community to which our school belongs, a community which is nourishing of our need to see in each other what we know in our hearts to be true: our shared and common humanity, underwritten by our faith.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal

Thank you in advance for helping this worthy cause.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST YEAR B
Mark 14:12-16, 22-26- This is my body. This is my blood.
Pope Francis points that at the Last Supper Jesus ‘breaks himself apart’. In doing so, the Pope suggests, Jesus shows his followers ‘that the aim of life lies in self-giving.’
The Pope reminds us that ‘we find the greatness of God in a piece of Bread, in a fragility that overflows with love, that overflows with sharing.’ In the fragility of the Eucharist, the Pope adds, we find ‘the strength of the love that becomes small so it can be welcomed and not feared.’
The Pope also highlights how the Eucharist reveals ‘the strength to love those who made mistakes.’ It was on the night he was betrayed, with Judas at the table, that Jesus ‘responds to Judas’ “no” with the “yes” of mercy.’
‘When we receive the Eucharist,’ the Pope explains, ‘Jesus does the same with us: he knows us; he knows we are sinners; and he knows we make many mistakes, but he does not give up on joining his life to ours. He knows that we need it, because the Eucharist is not the reward of saints, no, it is the Bread of sinners.’
‘The Eucharist,’ the Pope says, ‘is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.’ That being the case, this Sunday we might do well to ask ourselves what situation or person we are being strengthened to help.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS

This term we are unpacking our behaviour expectation of Succeeding.
Succeeding means trying your best, having courage, and embracing challenges.
SWPB Fortnight Focus Weeks 5-6
Reaching Out To Others
Our School Wide Positive Behaviour program continues with a focus for this fortnight on Reaching Out To Others. Our Year 2s are making new friends by asking others to join in their games. While our Year 4s are offering to help someone sitting by themselves, by encouraging them to find a friend to play with. Our teachers have been commenting on how many new friendships have been formed, this fortnight, as we reach out to others.
A WORD FROM OUR SCHOOL LEADERS
On the 22 of May we had our Simultaneous Storytime, which is where schools from all over Australia and New Zealand come and watch a video live of an author reading us one of her books. This year the book was Bower Birds Blue.
Our library teacher Mrs Basedow decorated the hall so beautifully with all the blue bird art that we made. While the author was reading the book, which everyone enjoyed watching, we could see our amazing artworks on the wall.
Our lovely Mrs R (the canteen lady) made us a special blue lunch order representing the book. We had a blue hotdog (blue bread) and a special treat. It was so delicious.

The garden is growing beautifully. We are starting to see potatoes and our lettuces have doubled in size.
